Meet our 2011-12 National Leader Schools

Lowell High School

Arrive Alive

When Lowell Youth Advisory Council (YAC) students reviewed data in their community over the last ten years, they found that eight teens from their high school had died from teen driving accidents. Students decided to focus on using service-learning to address texting and driving under the influence. Through a variety of strategies including: embedding teen driver safety into the health and social studies curriculum, engaging a diverse group of partners to supply expertise and resources, utilizing demonstrations, special events, media & merchandising to engage students in the issue, and presentations to younger students, peers in other schools and at local, state, & national conferences, the Lowell YAC is committed to helping make their community safer for everyone. They are committed to helping teenagers understand the responsibility that comes with having a driver's license.
